Le Blue v Cupertino "D" 01/24/09

As a heavy shadow of rainclouds loomed overhead, Le Bleu braved the conditions and played on to win 2/1 at Cupertino yesterday!

Joanne and Dean had a very close 3 set match losing the first set 3/6, taking the second 6/4 and then falling in a close 10 pt tiebreaker. I was on the other court but I saw some great points every time I looked over and I think they had some really tough competition. A very close result and excellent performance for a first time out. We will see more of these two.

Mike and I were playing two and played an interesting combo. This was not a pace game and that was so difficult for me. The man had a low sort serve with some spin on it that I continued to dump into the net. They were very effective at lobbing and breaking up the pace so we just couldn't get any rhythm going. If didn't feel pretty but we did manage to win cleanly in two> 3 and 3 and Mike was a real rock during this match keeping us alive. Thank you honey :-)>

Now the deciding match was on court one. Denise and Dan had a couple of match points on their racquet in the second set up 5/4 when they just couldn't close it out. Then the momentum shifted and they lost that set 7/5 -uggh. They played a full third set and Mike and I were already late to a dinner party so after a couple of games we HAD to leave. Shannon - our brave cheerleader got her blanket out of the car and refused to leave our team behind. When Mike and I left we were down 2/1. Twenty minutes later I got a call from Shannon with the good news. Denise and Dan took the 3rd set 6/3 continuing their winning streak after winning the Santa Cruz doubles 3.5 mixed division last weekend. Our fit and flirty duo did it again. Maybe it was Denise's new long blond hair that did the trick or her rebellious effort to wear RED instead of our team color - Bleu. Hey D - it's not Le Moulin Rouge

...It's Le Bleu!!
